Alison Marston

Humanitarian and Charity worker Alison Marston wants to give the marginalised voices in societies a platform to tell their story.

Having worked in the humanitarian and international development sector Alison has seen the perspectives and affects of aid from both the inside and out. Having been born and brought up in one of the world’s poorest countries- Nepal, which for the last 50 years has received significant international aid.

Initially, she worked in front-line conflict work for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and most recently working for the Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) running their events in London and also working on the set-up and management of Burns Violence Survivors -Nepal (BVS-Nepal), an independent partner NGO based in Nepal. Being born and brought up in Nepal she is very passionate about her birthplace and many issues that face the country. Having worked in the charitable sector has enabled Alison to see both the positive and negative aspects of international aid. This had led to her forming a firm belief that the most affective way of making progressive and positive change is through helping Nepali’s to empower themselves to develop independence and sustainability. She believes that bringing awareness to issues, organisations and personalities that usually would not be given such a platform through documentaries such as the ones presented in this website can be a very affective way of doing just this. Visual images and stories told through this means can be a very powerful way of bridging people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds together to share a broader understanding of global and local issues.

Turning the Wheels Productions was set up by Alison and Emily Kate to combine their skills and experience to showcase important stories through media and events.

Alison is also a designer to find out more about this work please visit the following website: www.stridesahead.com /www.stridesahead.net or for more info regarding BVS-Nepal look at the website:
